Thailand coach Alexandre Polking, guarantees not to play defensively in the second leg final against the Indonesian national team, at the National Stadium, Singapore, Saturday (1/1). He wanted the War Elephant squad to continue to attack.

Thailand’s chance, to embrace the 2020 AFF Cup title, is very wide open. In the first leg which took place a few days ago, the Indonesian national team was beaten four goals without reply.

The magnitude of the victory made Thailand predicted to appear more closed. This situation happened when Chanathip Songkrasin and his friends played against Vietnam, in the semi-finals.

Thailand, which in the first meeting won two goals without reply, played defensively in the second match. As a result, Vietnam failed to step into the final because the match was completed with a score of glasses.

“The semi-final against Vietnam, the first leg, we are leading 2-0 and we have to face more long balls. The situation at the time was we had to defend well,” Polking said.

“In this match [lawan Indonesia], first leg, we played our best in the tournament. Gives us a great advantage of the current situation. But we don’t play defensively. We wanted to end the tournament the way we used to, opening up offensive play and dominating the ball,” Polking added.

In addition, Polking asked his troops not to be complacent and stay focused on playing the second leg. He believes a small mistake can be fatal to the outcome of the match later.

“Yesterday I reiterate that the final is not over yet. As a result, we did well in the first game,” said the man who is familiarly called Mano.

So far, Thailand is the country that has won the most AFF Cup titles. They have won the event five times, namely in 1996, 2000, 2002, 2014 and 2016.
