ONENEWS.MY.ID – The coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong, feels proud and really appreciates the struggle of the Garuda squad in navigating the 2020 AFF Cup tournament, even though in the end they have not been able to come out as champions.

In addition, the Indonesian national team was also named the team that most respected sportsmanship, aka the Fair Play Team Award and also the Indonesian left-back, Pratama Arhan, who was awarded the best young player in the 2020 AFF Cup.

It is fair to say that the Indonesian national team has actually won the hearts of all football lovers in the country. And for that Shin Tae-yong said that they will focus on the things that will be achieved in the future.

The South Korean tactician also gave his team time to recover by taking a vacation and hanging out with loved ones.

“After the AFF Cup, I give the players a day off so they can rest. After that, we focus on the next tournament. I will also prepare the national team roadmap for 2022,” Shin said in a virtual press conference after the second leg of the 2020 AFF Cup final, Saturday night.

Shin Tae-yong promised to form an even tougher squad for the tournament calendar in 2022.
And with what has been achieved by the current Garuda squad, Shin is more confident, even though there are many young players with an average age of 23.8 years, the cohesiveness and maturity of the national team players has been tested.

“With our experience in the AFF Cup, we will move forward to the next tournament. In the next competition, we will be champion candidates and that certainly requires good preparation,” said the South Korean national team coach at the 2018 World Cup.

The Indonesian national team itself is scheduled to take part in several tournaments throughout 2022 between the U-23 AFF Cup on 14-26 February 2022, the 2021 SEA Games in May 2022 and also the 2023 Asian Cup Qualification in June 2022.
