Jakarta, ONENEWS.MY.ID —

Head of the Department of Health (Health Office) East Java Province, Dr. Erwin Astha Triyonno, emphasized that so far there has only been 1 patient Covid-19 Omicron variant detected in the region.

One of the patients is a resident of Surabaya with the initials TYC.

“Based on the data we sent to the ITD (Institute of Tropical Disease Unair) laboratory, where Prof Inge said yesterday, that until now there is only one positive data at his place (Covid-19 variant Omicron),” Erwin said, Monday. (3/1).

Erwin’s statement appeared to clarify what Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi had previously said, which said that two Surabaya residents had tested positive for the Omicron variant.

Erwin said, after the TYC was detected, the Task Force through the Surabaya Health Office also carried out tracing or close contact with the families and people suspected of having close contacts in question.

Erwin confirmed that one member of the TYC family, namely his grandson, also tested positive for Covid-19. However, the sample of the TYC grandson has not yet confirmed whether the Omicron variant or not.

“It must be noted that the second patient, his grandson, actually had no epidemiological contact (close contact), so the positive (Covid-19) is still being examined, although there was no contact with the first patient,” he said.

Currently, the sample is still being examined using the whole genome sequencing method by ITD Unair. Erwin hopes that the results will be known in the next few days.

“It is hoped that the WGS examination will be carried out today, so that in the next three to five days the results of the WGS will be available,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said, the Surabaya Health Office had traced the TYC’s extended family and neighbors. And the result was only his grandson who tested positive for Covid-19.

“There have been 15-16 people. All of them are negative except for the grandson. To this day his condition is good,” he said.

Previously, the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, said that two people had been detected with the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

Eri revealed that this was revealed after the Surabaya Covid-19 Handling Task Force carried out tracing to the first person detected as infected with Omicron.

The two patients are thought to be from the same family.

“There is one more, God willing, two. Already [confirm] Omicron is the information,” said Eri at the mayor’s official residence, Sunday (2/1) afternoon.
