“Number 1 could be Fred’s replacement.”

ONENEWS.MY.ID – Although the coaching chair at Old Trafford has changed, precisely when the Red Devils sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who performed poorly, Manchester United is still facing serious problems.

Seeing the unstable condition of the club with the quality of players going up and down, it seems they need new players in the January 2022 transfer.

Things have started to improve since interim coach, Ralf Rangnick, took over at Old Trafford. However, Man United are planning on getting several players during the January transfer window. It was because Anthony Martial and a few others wanted to leave the club.

Reports suggest the Red Devils could land the player Rangnick wants, but they are not interested in a short-term solution. Man United signed Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane last summer. However, they need more players to compete for the Premier League title.

On that note, here are 5 players who have been linked with a move to Man United in January 2022.

5. Ruben Neves

Paul Pogba’s future is still unclear, so Man United are looking for an immediate replacement. The Red Devils have been linked with Ruben Neves for some time, and it looks like a move could happen this month.

As reported by The Sun, Man United will compete with Chelsea for the Portuguese star’s signature in January. Wolverhampton are reportedly willing to sell the midfielder to fund the planned transfer of Bruno Lage in the upcoming transfer window.

When asked about his latest relationship with Man United last week, Neves said: “That’s normal in football. Every time there is a transfer window there is a lot of talk, but my goal and focus is Wolverhampton and I am not going to change that, things are going very well for me. I still have a lot to do. I have a lot to give here.”

4. Florian Wirtz

Since Rangnick took charge of Man United in an interim coaching role, the German players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz is one such player, and reports suggest the Red Devils are planning a move in January.

However, the Bundesliga contestant did not want to sell this valuable asset. They have said they have no plans to let Wirtz go this month or in the summer.

“Because of his contractual situation and the trust we have built in him and his family, we know he will be in good hands here for a few more years,” said Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller.

“At some point, maybe that day will come and this club will be too small for Florian, similar to Kai Havertz. But, it will still take time. My hope is that Florian will stay with us for a few more years. It’s important for us and the whole Bundesliga, and I think that’s the plan as well.”

That didn’t stop the Daily Star from linking him to Man United. The report says Rangnick could help secure the Red Devils deal.

3. Carney Chukwuemeka

Carney Chukwuemeka wants to stay at Aston Villa, but the promise of playing in the first team has not been fulfilled. The teenager was unhappy with the number of minutes he was getting, and was reportedly set to leave Villa Park.

Meanwhile Rangnick are trying to catch up to the youngster, and reports suggest they could make a move for him in January. However, Gabriel Agbonlahor has advised the teenager to sign a new contract at Aston Villa.

“My message to him is: Aston Villa is the best place for you. You may have clubs like Man City and Man United looking at you, but you have more chances to break through at Aston Villa and get minutes. When you get a chance, take it. My advice is to turn down offers from Liverpool and everyone else; stay and sign a new contract with the club.”

2. Ilan Meslier

Dean Henderson is reportedly considering his future at Man, and reports claim he will request a move in January. The Red Devils are unwilling to let him go before finding a replacement, and have set their sights on Illan Meslier.

The Leeds United goalkeeper has been doing well since the club was promoted to the top division. However, his performances have dropped a bit this season. Along with his team-mates, but that didn’t stop Man United from signing him.

The Daily Mail said that Meslier would have been at the top of Man United’s target list should Henderson decide to leave. However, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes the move is impossible.

“There’s no way he’s moving to Man United. He’s just signed a new contract. The club won’t be looking to move him. They don’t have any real cover in that area. The club is doing their due diligence on the player and believe me there will be a lot of clubs making reports about Illan. Meslier at the moment. He is outstanding in a team that is struggling,” Robinson told Football Insider.

1. Amadou Haidara

Man United need to sign a midfielder in January, and reports suggest Amadou Haidara is their numero uno target.

The RB Leipzig star has been doing well with the Bundesliga side. When asked about his relationship with the Red Devils, he said he was a fan of them growing up.

“Everyone has a favorite team as a child. My team is Manchester United,” Haidara told German outlet Bild.

Rangnick reportedly sees Haidara as someone who can deliver consistent performances, something Scott McTominay and Fred don’t yet have.
