Indonesian Foreign Minister: 73 thousand Indonesian citizens saved throughout 2021

Jakarta, ONENEWS.MY.ID – The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) held its annual press conference Thursday (6/1/2022). On that occasion, Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Retno Marsudi described Indonesia’s diplomatic achievements in 2021.

On that occasion, Retno said that pThe protection of Indonesian citizens (WNI) abroad continues to be a priority. Throughout 2021, Indonesia has succeeded in facilitating the repatriation or repatriation of 73,000 Indonesian citizens abroad.

“In 2021, more than 73,000 people will be repatriated, including 1,300 Indonesian citizens with ship crew backgrounds,” he said.

In addition, Retno also said that the financial rights of Indonesian citizens abroad amounting to more than Rp. 179 billion were also saved. A total of 7 Indonesian citizens were released from the death penalty.

Not only country-to-country, the Indonesian Foreign Minister also explained that in 2021 yesterday his party also succeeded in repatriating 4 Indonesian citizens who were hostages to the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group in the Southern Philippines.

The four Indonesian citizens who work as fishermen were successfully released after being held hostage for 1 year and 3 months. Three Indonesian citizens were released on March 18, 2021 and one other Indonesian citizen was released on March 21, 2021,” added Retno.

In the future, Foreign Minister Retno is committed that the protection system for Indonesian citizens will continue to be improved. This will be done through several stages in the fields of infrastructure and Human Resources (HR).

“We will do this through accelerating digitization, and developing a legal framework and international cooperation,” he said.
